This is one of me favourite songs from this musical, the harmonies will never fail to blow my mind, the passion in all of their voices is beautiful, not to mention the duet between Damitry and Gleb, it's so stunning

this is a wonderfull song but it feels really disjointed from the rest of the musical (an issue that I have with the whole Geb subplot) and the fact that it's based on in the dark of the night messes with my head though less so than the other uses of Rasputin's motif as motif for moving / leaving when it is just played as a short jingle while it would be silly, I'd love for in the Dark of the Night to be sung as an "encore" after the ending. the original movie has two big musical pieces and only getting Once Upon December is a crime!

So in my schools production of Anastasia, I ushered for all four shows, and was able to see them for free every time. My best friend played count, or in this case, Countess Ipolitov, and believe me when I say that they never failed to send chills up my spine. Hearing this really puts into perspective how much emotion really was put into this song no matter who sings it.

2:07 Until that spine-tingling chord, I didn't know how much I needed to hear Ramin sing the part of Moses in "Prince of Egypt." It's so reminiscent of the chord at the end of the "The Plagues." Also, Moses is another emotionally complex character, and we know Ramin loves those ones :P (But we love it, too, because he plays them so well!) *edit:* Have Hadley Fraser sing the part of Ramses, and it will be perfect!

I see many comments about refugees and inmigrants. I'll tell my grandpa's story. He was a child when the Spanish civil war came out, and his entire family, including him, stood at France as refugees. He spent there over ten years, until the chance of a lifetime took them back to Spain. He spoke better French than Spanish and the anthem he use to think of first was... Marseillaise. He was the example of that succesful people that self-help books mention, with a family business. So here it is, a man between two homelands.

All these “what if she had lived” movies about her, people willing to believe imposters pretending to be her, even though it was obvious they weren’t her, because they wanted so badly to believe she had lived. As one documentary about the family put it “you’d have to be non-human to not want to believe this beautiful mischievous princess lived.”

I’ve watched this twice live, and oh man it’s even more chilling in person!

the story that was made and recorded in the books was very cruel but with this song i think i can feel at least a little bit of all that pain and suffering of the true Dowager empress
